History

1981

Ralph Vold, father of Ryan Vold, purchased some rolling grazing land about 10 minutes south of his home town of Ponoka. The land was located in a sand belt, perfectly suited for the type of golf course Ryan wanted to build. Late that fall, Ralph, Ryan, and course designer Rod Whitman walked the land and started to develop some ideas for a course routing.

1982

Work begins on a new 18 hole course in the Sand dunes of Central Alberta.

1983

Clubhouse construction begins. The Volds decide to build a 20,000 sq. ft. hand carved log design, which became one of the largest hand carved log buildings in Canada.

1987-1999

Wolf Creek hosts the Alberta Open as a fixture on the Canadian Tour for 13 years. Receiving world wide publicity and exposure from this, Wolf Creek earns rave reviews from some of the world’s best young touring professionals.

2006

Ground is broken on a new nine holes east of the original East nine. The new project includes a practice short course and residential subdivision to be known as The Village at Wolf Creek.

2007

Seeding is done on the new nine holes, with an anticipated opening in the summer of 2008.
