Jared Nicolls Wins MJT National Championship

Our own Jared Nicolls, Wolf Creek Staff member wins Nationals:

Jared Nicolls, 18, of Ponoka, AB, came from behind to claim the MJT Junior Boys 17-19 National Champion’s title after commandingly managing his way around the superbly conditioned course with scores of 71-70 (141). He cited putting and a clutch finish as his key to victory. “I went three under in my last three holes to win by one,” said Nicolls. “It's one of the coolest wins of my career. Pretty cool for a small town Alberta boy to win on such a big stage like this. I would like to thank my family, my coaches and Wolf Creek Golf Resort for all the support."  Runner-up was Robert Wilkinson, 17, of Dundas, ON, (69-73=142) whose first round score was low for his division and the key to holding off third place finisher, Casey Sullivan, 18, of Kelowna, BC, who carded 70-73 (143).

MCLENNAN ROSS JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW

The 19th season of the McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour wraps up on Monday, August 25th at Wolf Creek Golf Resort with the Tour Championship.  We have 113 of Alberta's best junior golfers registered and ready to go tomorrow morning.  Defending Tour Champions AJ Armstrong of the Royal Mayfair and Kenna Hughes of Willow Park are both back to defend their 2013 titles but there are a host of outstanding juniors ready to knock them off.

Sun Life Financial Alberta Ladies Amateur and Junior Champion Jaclyn Lee of the Glencoe GCC will be in the field to see if she can cap off what has been a fantastic summer. Edmonton City Junior Champion Rayna Oosterhuis of Windermere and Srixon Order of Merit Champion Clare McMahon of Balmoral GC in Red Deer are also top contenders in the Junior Girls' division.

On the Junior Boys' side, 2013 Canadian Juvenile Champion and recently crowned Edmonton City Junior Boys' champion Andrew Harrison of Camrose heads up a strong group of players ready to challenge AJ Armstrong, who has also had a sensational summer. Other top contenders include Jaxon Lynn of Sylvan Lake, Jared Nicolls of Wolf Creek, and Justin Berget of Stony Plain among others.

If you can be at Wolf Creek tomorrow, it is an 11 am shotgun start, so we expect play to conclude approximately at 4 p.m. We hope to have full results on the Tour website by 8 p.m. tomorrow evening.

McLennan Ross Junior Golf Tour

The land, located in a sand belt, perfectly suited for the type of golf course the owners wanted to build. Late that fall, with course designer Rod Whitman, they walked the land and started to develop some ideas for what was to become “A Legend”.

A fixture for 13 years on the Canadian Tour, Wolf Creek hosted the Alberta Open, receiving world wide publicity and exposure as one of the world’s best courses by young touring professionals

Of course, like many Albertans, my favorite when it comes to local inland links is the one and only Wolf Creek. The shaping on both courses is absolutely stunning.
